Love

ugly babyMost babies when first born aren’t exactly cute, but parents see him or her as the most beautiful child in the world. A few weeks later they look back at photos from the birth day and wonder how they could have been so blind. But love is blind. It’s also our greatest protective weapon. When the Bible says to guard our heart “with all diligence,” the way to do that is to wear the breastplate of love (see 1 Thessalonians 5:8). Love will guard your heart. When someone wants to share ugly gossip, love doesn’t listen, and so the heart is guarded from thinking ill of a friend. When someone does you wrong, love doesn’t notice, and so your heart is guarded from bitterness. Love is patient, kind, never jealous, or selfish…and it even says in the midst of agony, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” — Ray Comfort
